THE ORGANISATION OF EDUCATION
The school has split site accommodation organised as follows :

Foundation Stage Unit
There are 2 Foundation Stage Units. In each unit there are Foundation Stage 1 children (Nursery age) and foundation Stage 2 children (Reception age). The FS1 pupils attend each morning; the FS2 pupils attend full time

KS1
Four classes with children in Y1 and Y2 being taught in mixed ability groups for all subjects
KS2
Seven classes – children taught in mixed ability groups: 1 Y3 class, 1 Y3/4 class, 1 Y4 class, 2 Y5 classes and 2 Y6 classes.

The school utilises a two year cycle of planning where possible, which is designed to ensure appropriate coverage of the National Curriculum subjects.

Whenever possible we aim to use firsthand experience to enhance the learning
process.  There are educational visits and a whole range of visitors coming into school to bring the curriculum alive.  The school has a policy on homework.  Homework is encouraged to reinforce aspects of work done in class.  Children are expected to read at home, practise tables and occasionally will be asked to research material for school projects etc. and complete set homework tasks.

We see parents and teachers as equal partners in the education process.  As such we welcome parental involvement in all aspects of our school life.

HOME/SCHOOL AGREEMENT
We value the support parents give to their children’s education.  We have a Home/School agreement which is signed by teachers and we encourage both parents and children to sign as well.

PARENT HELPERS
We are fortunate to have a great many parents and friends who regularly give up their time to work with our pupils in the classroom. Parents are very welcome to come into school when they can and help in all areas of school life.

FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL
We have a very active Friends of the School. The ‘Friends of St Nicholas School Association’ is a thriving organisation of parents, teachers and local people who support the school by organising a wide range of fund-raising activities, which has regularly resulted in an income in excess of £10,000 in recent years.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
The school has a pupil council which provides a voice for pupils in certain decision making within the school.  Each year every class elects representatives to serve on this council.
